Short answer, we wanted to! Long answer, it just felt right for us. Our first date was hiking, our engagement was hiking, so why not tie the knot on a beautiful mountain top. Originally, we thought we would just go to the court house, but then some friends shared with us their elopement in CO. And that just seemed like the perfect fit for us. Lukas had never been to CO, and I just adore the state. It honestly came together like a charm.
Started with an endless drive across the country, due to us insisting our pup, Cheez saw her parents make it official. We enjoyed staying with friends in Ft. Collins for several days and then made it to Breckenridge. There for four nights, we soaked in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains, ate wonderful food, and tied the knot. Leaving there we drove to Ouray aka Little Switzerland of America and hiked three miles to a lodge and enjoyed a backcountry mini moon! It was honestly the best and just so us.
We woke up at 3AM and a wonderful hair/make up artist came to our condo to help get myself and our friend/officiant Taylor get all glammed. We drove to the trail head and began our hike in the dark to a gorgeous alpine lake at around freezing temps. Getting closer to the top, with the sunrise on the horizon, we took in some amazing views and saw some mountain goats defying physics, enjoying their breakfast. Once lake side, we changed into our wedding clothes (taking cold feet to a whole new level!) and enjoyed a first look. We exchanged vows, and were able to experience a ceremony lead by Taylor, that fully embodied who we are and our love of nature. Lukas got to fish for native Cutthroat Trout, while Cheez zoomed around the mountain top. We were fortunate to have a photographer with us that captured each and every aspect of the day, including a tequila shot ski!
Absolutely not! We chose to have an intimate ceremony for just ourselves, but please know our hearts were filled with love for our family and friends on our wedding day. It is also very important for us to take the opportunity to celebrate our marriage with family and friends. And it’s because of all of you, and the enhancements that you bring to our lives that we couldn’t imagine not having a party. Our unique and special relationships mean so much to us, so we hope that you can throw down and maybe even Salsa dance along side of us.
