How We Met

01.01.2015

It was New Year's Day and from their respective couches, Timothy and Melissa both decided they would stoop to a new low in 2015 -- Tinder. As Melissa repeatedly swiped left certain she'd be alone forever, there he was. Swiping right, they matched and before a hello was spoken, Melissa texted her friend a screenshot of Timothy with the words, "I found my future husband. If you need me, we'll be walking hand in hand on the beach after breakfast in bed." A few moments later, Timothy said 'hello there' and a new chapter began. Staying up until a very irresponsible 3am texting each night for a week, Timothy and Melissa finally met in person on January 10, 2015 for their first date. The next day, Timothy told a colleague he'd just been on the first date with his future wife. The winter of 2015 was one of the snowiest on record and lucky for Timothy and Melissa, they got snowed in together weekend after weekend and confirmed over the next few months what their hearts knew in the first instant -- this was a forever love.

The Proposal

11.23.2019

It started like any other Saturday. Melissa went to the gym, they both cleaned up the apartment, Melissa played Timothy a new song she heard and loved as they danced around their kitchen. Like several Saturdays prior, Timothy and Melissa then walked downtown to their favorite coffee shop in Portsmouth and talked about life, the future, and even the would-be wedding. After finishing their coffees, they walked out of the coffee shop when Timothy stopped them at a bench -- but not just any bench. This is the bench where Melissa first told Timothy that she wanted to move to Portsmouth rather than make Timothy pay higher taxes (ugh!) in Boston. If you've ever walked around Portsmouth with Timothy and Melissa, you know this bench, you know this alley, and you've heard them shriek, "That's our alley!" As they sat on the bench in this picturesque New England alley, Timothy sent Melissa a series of pictures from his phone -- each one a screenshot of a text or picture from the early days of the relationship when they were falling in love. The last one, a text sent to his friends on the same day he told Melissa he loved her, said, "I can't do Monday. I'll be waking up next to my future wife." Then, Timothy got down on one knee and told Melissa he knew from the moment they met that she would be his future wife and asked a very important question. Melissa, for her part, was shaking and had blacked out by now. They think she said "Yes."
