Sarah and John met their senior year of college at Saint Louis University, when they wound up working in the same lab for their senior research projects (nerds...). While spending an absurd number of hours in the lab together, they bonded over their favorite playlists, documentaries, and beers. Sarah was traveling nearly every weekend for grad school interviews, so some of their first "dates" were the car rides when John drove her to and from the airport. When things finally settled down in the spring, they decided to ignore the cardinal rule of "don't date other lab members" and officially started dating.
John is notoriously indecisive, especially when it comes to planning travel, so Sarah always joked that the second he planned a trip or a big night out for them she would immediately know he was going to propose. So she thought nothing of it when their friends planned a trip for all of them to spend the weekend up in the Pocono Mountains, a place Sarah had always wanted to go. While hiking that weekend, they stopped in front of a beautiful waterfall and their friend asked if they wanted a picture in front of it, which of course Sarah said yes to. Instead of smiling at the camera though, John revealed he had actually planned the entire weekend, down to the proposal spot, using their friends as a cover so Sarah wouldn’t suspect anything! He got down on one knee, she said yes, they finished the hike with champagne in hand, and celebrated with their friends all weekend.
