We met at Sam's Club in Colonial Heights in 2009. I (Chanetta) was customer service and he was a night shift forklift driver. Always was small talk, but I had no idea he actually was interested in me. He'd always ask how me and my boyfriend were doing, and I'd tell him we were fine. One night in 2010 he asked about how my relationship was doing and as I was leaving the store I told him "We broke up!"... At that point he signaled me over to come talk to him and I went. He was so COCKY! He took my phone and called himself! I was shocked because he never even said anything for me to know he liked me, but I definitely knew from that point on. One day he randomly asked me to meet him in Hopewell... mind you I knew nothing about Hopewell but where Wawa and the club was at lol. So we met at Wawa. He stayed in his car and I stayed in mine and we sat there and talked for FOUR HOURS!!! On the outside he was this hood guy (which he still is) but he was so down to earth. I wasn't expecting that at all and I liked him a whole lot. His birthday 2010 we were officially together.
So.... we dated for about a year, but it became clear that what I wanted he couldn't give. We were young but I knew what I wanted. I was 21 and he had turned 24. He still wanted to hang with his friends all the time which is fine, but I needed my time with him too. I'm a brat so I wasn't dealing with that! I left and told him when he was ready to get serious, maybe I'll still be available. Yes I'm sassy! Through the years we both had relationships with other people, but stayed in contact. He knew I'd always love him and I knew he loved me because he made sure he told me every time we spoke. I'd pull up on him sometimes if he wanted to see my face and bring him lunch on his break at work and just sit in the parking lot and talk. We were friends that loved each other with a bond that we both couldn't get with anyone else.
By the time 2017 came around, I had been through a lot. I had started going out by myself to eat dinner and have a drink. I don't even know why I all of a sudden called him, but I did. I told him I was going to Applebees and if he wanted to, he could pull up. So we met as friends and sat at the bar. I thought we were going to sit and talk like we normally did, but he came with another agenda. He straight up told me I was going to have his baby and be his wife. I laughed because we had been drinking so I didn't take him seriously. But when we left and he walked me to my car... HE WAS SERIOUS! Through all that time we weren't together he never made a move on me but he did that time lol. I told him straight up if we were going to move forward I need X, Y, Z and long story short HE DID IT! It wasn't easy but he did it. We made it re official on 2/16/2018.
Every year for my birthday I have a birthday dinner planned by my mom. So it was my 30th which is a big one so I didn't think anything of it when I found out his family would be there this time. Our families got to meet so this was good because it was long overdue. I'm minding my business opening my gifts when two of his friends walk up to the table. I was like "Why are they here?! They weren't in the reservation!". But I found out why shortly after. Terrance McDougal said "The reason I wanted everybody here today is because.." and I SAW THE RING! He dropped down to his knee at the Boathouse in Rockets Landing and asked me to marry him in front of all our loved ones. I always said I wanted it to just be me and him alone when he did it, but it was perfect. Now we're here! We're getting married! #MEETTHEMACS
