Jean Lafitte's National Historical Park and Preserve protects the natural and cultural resources of Louisiana's Mississippi River Delta region. The preserve has trails and conoe tours through bottomland hardwood forests, swamps and marsh. A sure way to see an abundance of natural wildlife and a great place to visit if you drove to LA, as this is 30 minutes south of the French Quarter.
A great, authentic experience! Cajun Encounter Tours offer city, plantation and swamp tours - our favorite is obviously the swamp tour! This tour company will pick you up from your location, swamp tours are on small, flat-bottomed boats and give great tours of the beautiful Honey Island Swamp and all the wonderful wildlife the swamp has to offer!
Antoine’s is the birthplace of such culinary classics as Oysters Rockefeller, Eggs Sardou (poached eggs over artichoke bottoms with anchovies, topped with hollandaise sauce), and Pommes de Terre Souffles (those marvelous puffed potatoes Antoine’s helped popularize). This is also the spot where Sean and I celebrated our engagement 💍
Commander's Palace, nestled in the middle of the tree-lined Garden District, has been a New Orleans landmark since 1893. Known for the award-winning quality of its food and its convivial atmosphere, the history of this famous restaurant offers a glimpse into New Orleans' storied past and has been the go-to destination for Haute Creole cuisine and whimsical Louisiana charm.
Lafitte's Blacksmith Shop is a historic structure at the corner of Bourbon Street and St. Philip Street in the French Quarter. Most likely built as a house in the 1770s during the Spanish colonial period, it is one of the oldest surviving structures in New Orleans and said to be the oldest structure housing a bar in the United States! Grab a voodoo juice and enjoy the patio!
With a laissez faire approach to brewing, Brieux Carré embodies the New Orleans spirit with brews as weird and interesting as the city they live in. Some of my favorite sours can be found here, they have a great tasting room and outdoor seating on a patio out back. Only steps away from the Vieux Carré, so make sure to stop by Brieux Carré!
