Kendra and Michael met during their first year of medical school at Texas Tech HSC in Lubbock, TX. One day after their Cardiovascular exam, Kendra and Michael ran into each other at the gym. After chatting, Kendra said she could lift more than Michael. Michael thought she was joking; she wasn’t. So Michael took her up on the challenge, and Kendra put him through a CrossFit WOD. The workout kicked Michael’s butt. From there, they continued to work out together and Michael would "coincidently" show up at Kendra's favorite study spots. When Spring Break came, Kendra invited Michael along with a group of friends to Albuquerque, NM. The plan was to hike La Luz, a 9 mile hike with 3,300 ft elevation gain. She told Michael it'll be an “easy hike” for his first hike ever. It was not easy. What started out as a sunny hike turned into hiking through 2 ft of snow. The majority of the group made the treacherous hike through the snow with no problem. However, Michael, again his first hike ever, started to get leg cramps. The snow would collapse under him with each step, and cramps would start again. He thought he wasn’t going to make it and was ready to give up. Luckily for him, one person stayed by his side, helping Michael reach the end of the snowy trail. Cody Clapp, a classmate. Not Kendra; she already hiked past the snow and figured Michael would be fine. Michael and Cody got past the snowy steep slope and Stephanie Feist waited for them. She helped Michael to catch up with the group. (Kendra decided to help then). And everyone made it to the peak to take a nice group picture. Despite all the pain, blood, sweat, and tears from that grueling hike/torture, Michael continued to fall in love with Kendra and she fell in love with his perseverance and kind-soul. From there, the two were inseparable, spending their time working out, cooking, studying, traveling, and binge-watching trashy television shows together. On Michael's 28th birthday, he proposed and Kendra said "yes"!
