This is an easy trailhead to access from town with a variety of trailheads for day hikes. Most trails here are moderate (Flattop, Little O'Malley Peak), with a few gentler trails such as Powerline Pass.

This and Pablo's Bike Rentals are both great options for renting bikes for the day. Anchorage has some incredible paved trails (Coastal Creek Trail, Chester Creek Trail, Campbell Creek Trail) as well as single-track and dirt trails through Kincaid Park and Bicentennial Park/Hillside.
If you're looking for an easy way to tour South-central Alaska in a day, this is a great option. You can take trips up to Talkeetna, or all the way down to Seward. The train takes a really neat route south towards Seward passing glaciers that are not accessible by car.
Fun ski town about 45 minutes south of Anchorage with great hiking and biking trails, tram ride to top of Alyeska Resort, and one of our favorite breweries - Girdwood Brewing Company Girdwood's Forest Fair is typically held 4th of July Weekend.
One of our favorite places to visit - Seward is a coastal town about 2.5 hours south of Anchorage. This is a great place to go salmon/halibut fishing on ocean charters, hike, camp, and go on wildlife cruises through the Kenai Fjords National Park.
This is a good place to visit if you are looking to come to Alaska to fish for salmon in the freshwater. Typically sockeye will be starting their run up the river and king salmon will be finishing up their run in early July.

One of our favorite places to visit with access to great fishing, hiking, remote camping and exploring at Kachemak Bay State Park. Homer is a cute coastal town with neat shops, great restaurants, and amazing views. This is a 4.5 hour drive from Anchorage.
