This story begins 4 years ago in Arizona, at what is now one of Matt and Alivia’s most memorable restaurants, Hula's Modern Tiki. Alivia had gone to the bar the week before on her own and told her parents she was going again that Friday. Brian and Tricia left the house (which is rare!) and headed to Scottsdale for a night out. On their way home, they decided to stop into Hula's to say hi to Alivia. From inside the restaurant, and with Alivia still parking her car, Tricia called to ask Alivia where she was sitting. Alivia panicked and told her mom to leave immediately; she was meeting someone for a date. Meanwhile, Matt was already seated at the front of the restaurant and noticed a couple who looked oddly familiar from a photo Alivia had shown him. He wondered, “Did this girl send her parents ahead to scope me out? Or... are they joining us?” He then watched as Tricia quickly grabbed Brian and rushed out the door. As the evening unfolded, what began as a memorable misunderstanding turned into a night filled with laughter and instant connection. After a few drinks, Alivia shared the story with Matt, and the two couldn’t stop laughing. They continued the evening at the neighboring restaurant, Modern Margarita, shared key lime pie shot samples, and spent six unforgettable hours getting to know one another. Life soon carried them both in different directions, and Matt moved back to Texas in early 2022, but they stayed in touch. That May, fate brought them both to Nashville, where Matt met Alivia’s entire family (intentionally this time) and her best friend, Hilary, on Broadway. Matt began returning to Phoenix regularly for work, and they would meet up for dinner during his trips. As things grew more serious, it became clear that long-distance wasn’t sustainable, they knew they wanted to build a life together and that they wanted to be together forever. So, on February 11th, 2024, Matt loaded up a moving truck in San Antonio and drove straight to Arizona in a single day. From that moment on, they were inseparable. Weekend date nights, travel adventures, weddings, and an amazing year of everyday life, finally side by side. On Valentine’s Day 2025, Matt proposed to Alivia at Castello di Amorosa in Napa Valley. It was a beautiful and unforgettable weekend spent celebrating, wine tasting, and enjoying everything they love doing together. Now, we are so thrilled to be celebrating our marriage with you at Blackstone, a place that holds deep meaning for us and where Alivia’s parents reside. It is truly special, and we can’t wait to share it with all of you.
