Our love in the Distance

1 Corinthians 13

Their story didn’t begin with a spark or a single moment—it began with worship, with friendship, and most of all, with God at the center. Kevin and Bethany met through a worship band formed by her close circle of family and friends. Her brother David had invited Kevin to play drums, not knowing that simple invitation would set something so meaningful into motion. At first, Bethany saw Kevin as kind, humble, and deeply caring towards others. While she wasn’t looking for anything romantic, slowly, his gentle heart and consistent acts of service began to speak to hers. Meanwhile Kevin, fell for the girl whose heart for God and gentle spirit lit up every room. Their friendship grew naturally through worship sessions, late-night conversations, and laughter shared among friends. Both were surprised on how much they enjoyed each other’s company. But their connection deepened even more when they began working together at Hobby Lobby. Kevin would take double shifts—all to just to catch a glimpse of her smile and hear her laugh a little longer. Whenever possible, making sure she got home safely. All while her heart raced more and more when he would come around her. Still, Bethany never realized his feelings ran deeper. But love, as it often does, found a way to reveal itself. Her sister picked up on Kevin’s heart and used a little code—asking, “Do you like blueberry pie?” while subtly gesturing toward her. Kevin’s quiet smile and “Yeah… I like blueberry pie,” said more than words ever could. Not long after, Kevin gathered his courage and shared his heart. Though they first tried to remain friends, it was clear their bond was something more. On January 1, 2017, they officially began dating. That first year was filled with laughter, music, and a sweetness they couldn’t quite explain. They traveled together with the worship band, made memories on long drives, and found comfort in simply being together. But then came a difficult change: Kevin’s family had to move away. With tears in their eyes, they asked the hardest question—What does this mean for us?—They knew parting ways would hurt even more than the miles between them. On December 15, 2017, their long-distance chapter began. It was painful, and more than once, they felt the weight of the distance. But through it all, they remained committed—texting, calling, visiting when they could. Every reunion felt like he had never left. Every goodbye reminded them just how much they meant to each other no matter how painful it was. There were moments when the distance nearly pulled them apart. But when they chose to stop fighting the strain and instead began to pray together, things began to change. God, once again, stepped in to hold them close. They began to understand that love isn’t always about rushing ahead—it’s about trusting the One who holds time. Patience and understanding bloomed in their hearts, and they learned what it meant to love someone with endurance, with grace, and with joy. Then, on December 22, 2024, on a cold winter evening, while walking through a beautiful twinkling arch way Kevin went on one knee, and asked the love of his life to finally marry him. Bethany in surprise felt a warmth that went beyond the cold and as it melted away peace filled her heart. A promise from long ago was fulfilled. With tears in her eyes, she said yes to her best friend Their story is one of friendship turned to love, love refined through distance, and a relationship built on something greater than themselves. And to make it even sweeter—the person who introduced them, her brother David, will also be the one marrying them. This is more than a love story. It’s a testimony. And their hearts overflow with gratitude to the One who wrote every word. All Glory to God forever and ever.
