How We Met

October 2018

Kyle and Albany met in October of 2018 when Albany first visited Exodus Church. Kailey Gibbs introduced her to the community group, of which Kyle was a member. Over those 2 years, Kyle and Albany grew in friendship, hanging out together with the LMNOP group, sharing memes in group texts, and discussing sermons and God's Word together at community group. It wasn't until one fateful Sunday in early October 2020 when Kyle handed Albany a box of tissues, that their eyes would be opened to the possibility of something more than friendship. With the resounding approval and encouragement of their friends and family, Kyle asked Albany to dinner. They had their first date on October 18, 2020 and became "official" on October 30, 2020. Thus, McWiddle was born.

The Proposal

January 15, 2020

To say 2021 started out fairly rough for Kyle and Albany would be an understatement. Very sadly, Kyle's dad passed away. Albany also lost a friend from chorus. However, God was faithful in that Kyle and Albany could draw together and support each other during this time of loss. On Friday, January 15, 2020, Kyle told Albany that in light of the difficult week they had faced, he was taking her out to dinner; they needed to go on a nice date. Albany got a little suspicious when Kyle told her she specifically needed to wear a cocktail dress, but had no idea what he was planning. When Kyle picked Albany up for dinner, he told her they had to run by the church real quick. Not totally out of the norm, so off they went. When they got to the church, Albany had to go to the bathroom so Kyle told her to meet him in the fellowship hall. When she got back and opened the door to the fellowship hall, she was completely floored. Kyle had decorated the room with soft white lights, there was music playing (instrumental Star Wars of course!), and he was standing next to a table with roses and candles on it in front of a backdrop with more lights hanging down. Albany took off her coat and he guided her to stand next to the table. Kyle said "This is where it all began. It was right here the first time I met you that very first day you came to church. And this is where it should reach its telos." He got down on one knee and asked "Albany Lynn Widler, will you marry me?" With the cliche tears and hands over her mouth, Albany very enthusiastically said "yes!" It was the perfect proposal!
