McVey and Peter’s story begins over 25 years ago in Prout’s Neck, a small coastal community in Southern Maine where their families have vacationed every August for generations. While maybe too early to call at ages 10 and 11, their mothers can attest an attraction existed. During the rest of the year, McVey grew up in Long Island, New York playing ice hockey and Peter in Newport Beach, California playing soccer and sailing. McVey began her westward journey on a cross country road trip in 2018, following her dream to live in California. Shortly after visiting Santa Barbara and camping under the redwoods, McVey packed up her life and moved from New York to San Diego. As fate would have it, Peter’s younger brother Pierce came across her Facebook feed, reminding her that her childhood crush from Prout’s Neck lived nearby. She messaged him on Facebook, and Peter called her right back. They met again for the first time halfway between Newport Beach and San Diego for lunch and have been inseparable since. The two are madly in love and share racing Lehman 12 sailboats, swims in the ocean, hiking, and traveling while pursuing their individual passions. Peter proposed to McVey in Prout’s Neck along the cliff walk last July, bringing their story full circle. McVey and Peter currently live in Carmel Valley along with their fur babies, Skooch (Dog) and Prances (Cat).
