Kate met Kevin on the Saturday night before they started college at Miami University. Kate was going uptown with her friends when their group ran into Kevin and his friends on Maple Street. After ditching them to go to party, they ran into each other in the very long line for Brick Street Bar and Grill. They immediately hit it off and after dancing until last call, they spent the rest of the night talking on the porch of Morris Hall. After finding out they had the same professor for calculus, they used that as an excuse to hang out even more (They both did poorly in that class). Even though Kevin's friends doubted the seriousness of their relationship at first, looking at you Paul, they are so excited to spend the rest of their lives together.

It was no secret that this day was coming. After four years of dating, Kate and Kevin wanted all of their family to be present while they took the next step in their relationship. The morning began with the Commissioning ceremony, where Kevin and his friends began their official commitment to the Navy. Following in the footsteps of many Miami Mergers, Kevin made his lifelong commitment to Kate by getting down on one knee underneath the Upham Arch. They were then joined in celebration by both of their families, as well as their friends who were waiting in the courtyard of Upham Hall. They went to their Commencement ceremony and graduation parties, where Kate and Kevin were ecstatic to share the news. They spent the night celebrating their engagement and graduation with their families and closest friends.
