How We Met

As fate would have it, we met the classic college way - freshman year at the University of Wisconsin-Madison living on the same dorm floor, the infamous Sellery 9A. From that day on, it was Badger games, 9A pre-games, late night A-bar jam sessions in Joe and Ian’s room, jumping into Lake Mendota, nights on the Double-U rooftop and Marketing classes together that all formed a basis for an amazing friendship that would span our 4 years at UW Madison.

Built on Friendship, Funded by Plasma

Joe was the first to hope that this friendship could be the start of something more, but it took a little time and a little help from some close mutual friends (shout out Jessa) to learn that Sadie felt the same way. Joe finally worked up the courage to ask Sadie out during first semester Senior year of college. While we like to tell people our first date was at Olive Garden (funded by Joe’s incredible ability to find money on bar floors - $100 bill off the Double U floor in this specific instance) we consider our real first date to be far more on-brand for college life (and us): donating plasma together to earn a little extra bar money. Nothing says true love like sitting across a room from each other, hooked up to machines, for the sake of making a quick buck.

Love Knows No Distance

Our senior year of college, right after making it official, we took a spring break trip to Gulf Shores, AL that was ultimately cut short due to the start of COVID. We eventually each returned to our respective homes, graduated virtually and began our “big kid” jobs. Soon after, we found ourselves navigating two years of long distance between Minneapolis and Milwaukee. Despite the miles, we mastered weekend visits, long drives, and FaceTime dates that only made us closer.

Life Under One Roof

We decided that one of us would have to make the move so we could take the next step in our relationship so eventually Sadie made the big switch to Minnesota where we had already established amazing lifelong friendships from visits and existing relationships, making it an easy transition filled with exciting adventures and getting to build our life together. Our dear friend Brogan made the selfless move to live in a house with Joe and two of his friends for 6 months (she is so brave) to be able to align leases with Sadie. We enjoyed a whole year of getting to date each other in the same city and explore Minneapolis and St Louis Park until we finally got a place of our own in the North Loop. Here we have been able to build a home and do life together where we love to walk along the Mississippi river, eat at the many nearby restaurants, and go to the local hangout…Lifetime Fitness (I wish this was a joke). We even got to revisit dorm life living with 4 of our closest friends living 2 floors above us making random game nights and dinner pop-ins a regular occurrence. Despite Joe’s inability to put a toilet seat down and Sadie not always living up to cleaning standards, living together helped solidify what we already knew, that we wanted to live together forever!

The Proposal

In the fall of 2024, we decided to take a spontaneous trip to Hawaii after stumbling upon some shockingly cheap flights. This was the perfect opportunity for Joe, who had been hiding a ring in the one place Sadie would never look – his fishing gear. We packed our bags and headed to our new favorite destination, Kauai, where we spent a long weekend exploring the local food scene, getting absolutely drenched on our favorite hike of the trip, surfing, waking up to the obnoxious Chickens, walking along and relaxing on all the beaches, snorkeling, and surviving the world’s longest and coldest catamaran ride. The highlight of the trip happened during a secluded sunset beach walk and despite Joe’s elaborate attempts to throw Sadie off his scent, what came next was not a huge surprise as he got down on one knee and proposed. Joe received an immediate yes followed by a self-timer photoshoot and free champagne at our fancy dinner reservation.

The Big "I Do"

We have loved every minute of our life together and a huge part of that has been the people around us who have loved, supported, and encouraged us in every aspect of life. If you’re reading this then you are one of those people! We cannot wait to celebrate this next phase in life and hope you can come celebrate with us!
