01-01-1994 - HAPPY NEW YEAR can be heard across Port Elizabeth. Craig, fresh off the army "uitklaar" boat (completed compulsory military duty, for those that don't know the word) and his mates, somehow ended up on the bridge at Happy Valley to celebrate with the locals. Bottle of champagne in hand, he stumbles into the most beautiful woman he had ever laid eyes on and clumsily gives her a hug. Her reply melts his heart as he had never heard someone so beautiful with an accent this gorgeous. "HAPPY NEW YEAR!", she screams back at him. Craig stuck to Nikki's side for the rest of the evening as he HAD to hear where she was from and what she was doing in PE. As fate would have it, they both ended up at the house she was looking after and they stayed up the entire night, on the lounge floor, talking and talking and talking and talking until the sun came up. Craig knew from the moment he laid eyes on her, that this girl was special. So special that he would never ever forget her and how she made his heart beat like a bass drum. Fast forward all these years and the feeling has not changed. The adoration, the heart beating like a bass drum and the butterflies when she is around...
As Nikki was from Namibia and Craig from South Africa, Craig decided to go on one knee in between the 2 countries - in no mans land at the border post called Nakop. Only one person witnessed the event, a border patrol guard who jumped and cheered so loud that his friends must have thought Namibia won a World Cup.
