How We Met

We met playing disc golf! It was April of 2021 and I had gone with friends to Boom Field Disc Golf to play random doubles on a Friday afternoon. I volunteered to pass out playing cards to determine partners, and as I handed one to Matt, he said “I don’t want that one!”, teasing (flirting with?!) me. I said too bad and carried on with the rest of the cards. We then all looked around to find our partner, and of course we had the same card and were partners. We proceeded to play our round together. We discovered we had both gone to Thornton Academy and only graduated a year a part from each other. We parted ways after the round, but Matt found me on Facebook and we ran into each other at Woodland Valley another time. He finally asked me out on May 4, 2021 under the pretense of “not playing Hammond blind”, which is where we had our first date a few days later!

The Proposal

December 25, 2024

In early December, Matt casually asked what kind of engagement ring I liked. I stared at him in disbelief and said, “What?!” To which he replied, “You heard me!” So, the very next weekend, we went ring shopping- because even I had no idea what my style was. After visiting a few jewelers and narrowing it down to a handful of favorites, I told Matt to surprise me with the final choice. A few weeks later, on Christmas morning, we had just finished opening gifts and eating breakfast. I got up to put my contacts in, then came back to snuggle on the couch with my head on his chest. I happened to glance down- and there it was. A ring box, just casually sitting on his lap. Naturally, I popped straight up and said, “What is THAT?!” Matt smiled and said, “Do you wanna do this, babe?” I said, “…do what?” He said, “Get married?” I said, “To who?” He said, “To me!” I said, “YES!!!” We both burst into giggles and happy tears. I grabbed the ring box, opened it immediately (because patience is not my strength), and slipped it onto my finger before realizing that technically he was supposed to do that part. We soaked in the moment for a bit, then called our families and friends- and, of course, celebrated the best way we know how: by heading out to play a round of disc golf.
