We love exploring Richmond, and one of our favorite spots is Carytown! Check out our favorite local bookstore, Shelf life, or go to Mongrel for some unique keepsakes. Hungry? Well Carytown is home to some of our favorite restaurants! You can't go wrong with Greek on Cary or Tulsi! Looking for a sweet treat? Nothing beats Bev's hot fudge and ice cream! We also love going to see a movie at the Byrd Theater. There is so much to explore in Carytown!
The Valentine
For a deep dive into local history, we highly recommend The Valentine! It’s a small but mighty museum filled with incredible artifacts that bring the story of Richmond to life in a truly unique way.
Virginia Museum of Fine Arts
The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts is a must-visit, and not just for the art! This world-class museum is a local favorite for its vibrant community atmosphere. On sunny days and Friday nights, the lawn transforms into a giant city-wide picnic. It’s free, fabulous, and perfectly situated in the Fan District, making it the ideal home base for a day of exploring Richmond's best shops and restaurants.
Stella's
Looking for somewhere truly great to eat? We highly recommend Stella's. Theres a reason this place is beloved by Richmond locals and its reputation can make it difficult to get a table! Though reservations are encouraged, they do take walk ins. This place is worth the hype!
Chicano Boy Taco
If you’re looking for local flavor in a relaxed setting, it’s hard to beat Chicano Boy! You’ll often find us here digging into a burrito bowl with a side of chips and green salsa. With fantastic food and friendly service, it’s a go-to favorite not just for us, but for so many of our friends and family, too.

For the best ice cream in the world (according to Emily!), head straight to Gelati Celesti. Emily has been a regular here since she was a kid, and even after traveling far and wide, nothing beats it. Whether you try her favorites—Chocolate Decadence and Just Ask—or pick your own, you’re in for a treat. It’s a local must-visit!
