Coronavirus can't stop our love... But it can stop us from safely celebrating with 150 of our closest friends. We will still be getting married on May 24th (with immediate family only), and we hope to celebrate with you all sometime this Fall! We will be sending out our updated info when we find our new reception date. Thank you for your patience and support during this crazy time! We will post a link on the “live stream” page on this website so you can stream the ceremony from the safety of your home!
It was August 15, 2014, and I had just moved into a duplex with my best friends, ready to begin our Junior year at Ohio State. I was pulling into the parking lot of our new place when I saw my future husband standing there with a smile on his face. As I got out of the car, he introduced himself, excited to meet his new neighbor as he unloaded the last few items out of his car. He asked me which of us five girls would be staying in the bedroom with the balcony- you see, the duplex had a third floor balcony that was shared by two bedrooms, one being mine and the other being Austin's. I had been nervous about sharing a bedroom balcony with a complete stranger, but now I was relieved to learn that he seemed normal. In the following few months, my roommates and I had so much fun hanging out with the boys next door, and Austin and I particularly seemed to have a strong connection. We became great friends, and then in that February, we finally decided to make it official. In the following years, we built a life together, getting to know each other's families, moving in together, adopting a second cat together, and supporting each other through college and new careers. Austin is my best friend, biggest supporter, my personal chef, and the most loving cat dad. And it all began on that third floor balcony on Chittenden Avenue.
It was a Thursday, February 21st to be exact, I had just bought Jocelyn's ring three days prior. She had just gotten home from work and changed into comfy clothes - We decided to order some pizzas and open a bottle of wine. I put some music on - We were standing in our kitchen catching up on our days.. and all of a sudden it hit me - You see I had a very elaborate proposal plan all figured out.. 2 1/2 years before this date, Jocelyn gifted me a 'lightbulb container' (that you can see in our photos) that I could unscrew the top of and put "my best ideas" into. I never used it.. about 2-3 months went by, and I was thinking about whether or not I was ready to propose. I wrote it down on paper "Will you marry me?" - I quickly decided it was bit too soon. So I rolled up the piece of paper and put it into the lightbulb.. I hid it in my dresser for over two years, knowing some day I would bring it out and show her "This is the best idea I've ever had". Fast forward to February 2019, I booked Jocelyn and I a trip to Europe to celebrate Jocelyn graduating her Doctorate program. We were booked to go in May - First stop, Paris. Yes, I was going to be ultra-cheesy and propose in Paris.. However there I was, three days into owning the ring, on a random Thursday in our kitchen... I knew I couldn't wait. Something felt special about doing it on such an ordinary night - In our home, with our fur-family. I put on our favorite song to slow-dance to (yes, you'll hear it during our first dance) and I went to retrieve the lightbulb from its hiding place. I grabbed the ring, and walked into the kitchen - I showed her the lightbulb, and asked her if she remembered giving it to me. Confused, she answered "Yes, I can't believe you still have that!? Where has it been?". I told her I had been hiding it for the last two years, and that there was something written on the piece of paper inside it that I needed her to read.. she opened it, I bent the knee, she sobbed hysterically, it was great.
