This is the story of how God brought two people together through three very persistent matchmakers. It all started on Christmas Eve 2023 in a Waffle House. That's where Annette Eaton first mentioned McKenzie to her son-in-law, Drew, and daughter Anna. Drew mentioned to Annette that his best friend, Owen, was single, and Annette immediately thought of McKenzie. But the timing wasn't quite right yet. Fast forward to March 2024, and the matchmaking team was officially assembled. At a UNC vs. Duke basketball game watch party, Annette struck up a conversation with McKenzie's mom, Margaret. Soon enough, Drew was recruited to the cause, mentioning McKenzie to Owen, while Margaret worked her magic on McKenzie's end. Both McKenzie and Owen were interested, but when Margaret sent Owen's number to McKenzie, she made one request: she'd prefer if Owen reached out first. Owen took the hint, and on March 13th, 2024, they had their first date! But God had been weaving their stories together long before they ever met. As Owen and McKenzie got to know each other, they uncovered what can only be described as His fingerprints all over their lives. They went to the same high school, just three years apart. Owen likes to remind McKenzie that his time as a wide receiver on the football team was the reason her freshman year football season was so exciting. Margaret taught Owen in 8th grade, and Owen's dad, Bill, even chaperoned a field trip to Washington, DC, where he met McKenzie's mom—years before either of them knew the other existed. Owen's roommate turned out to be McKenzie's childhood neighbor from the cul-de-sac where Owen spent time playing as a kid. And the cherry on top? They matched on Hinge back in October 2023, but McKenzie never took Owen up on that coffee date. (oops! hehe) On May 13th, 2024, they made it official, and it didn't take long for them to realize that they didn't want to do life without the other.
