October 9th, 2021 was opening night at Fall for Greenville. A record crowd filled Main Street for food, beer, and music with friends. Convinced to join, Connor gambled on meeting a colleague for the night out with folks he'd never met. Arriving at 7pm, he sampled local barbeque and nervously mingled amongst Ben and his college roommates. Down the street, McKenna was busy enjoying a wedding reception. Wearing a dark green dress, she ate, danced, took pictures and wore out the open bar. Night came quickly and 10pm told Connor it was time to head home. He'd stuck to Ben most of the night, occasionally talking with someone new at the rooftop bar, Sip. He was tired after work and knew Pritchett (his cat) would be hungry for dinner. During his first attempt to leave, Ben mentioned seeing other friends and requested Connor stay out longer. They were headed to Rey's, a local bar packed with tipsy college students for another cheap beer and loud music. Seeing an opportunity to explore downtown, and another chance to make friends, Connor accepted. As night fell, McKenna finished dancing and received a text from an old contact from Clemson asking her to meet up. The reception was fading, and McKenna still had plenty of energy. She decided to move and keep her night going with a new group. Approaching Rey's, Connor planned to baby another Michelob Ultra. He'd driven down and decided to leave if conversation didn't pick up. The group walked down Main, stopping for one last food sample on the way. Outside Rey's, a long line piled up as Fall for Greenville closed up. Ben shouted at someone new approaching, waving her toward his large group. It was clearly a girl, running across the road, stopping just short of Ben and looking excited. She wore a dark green dress. McKenna made her rounds, greeting each member of the group with a hug, wave, or simple 'Hello'. A special burst of energy was saved for Ben, the friend who asked her to join. Waiting in line, McKenna turned her attention toward Connor. 'What's your name?' McKenna said to Connor, standing near a metal guardrail outside Ray's. 'I'm Connor, a friend of Ben's from work.' was the reply. Their conversation begun, quickly picking up as more questions were asked. McKenna began to explain the wedding, how she knew Ben, and noticed the large attendance at Fall for Greenville. Connor mentioned being new to the area and their dialogue continued into the night. Talking shifted to shouting, warranted by a louder environment. Despite knowing other friends, McKenna spent much of her time next to Connor. They continued to talk as McKenna guided Connor through downtown, commenting on her favorite parts of the city as they walked. It was immediately apparent; McKenna liked to talk, and Connor liked to listen. The night slowed around 1, forcing McKenna to consider her travel home. The walk was too far and she'd (fortunately) not driven a car. In a leap of faith, McKenna asked Connor to take her. He quickly agreed. The two set off from Main St., approaching the West End within 5 minutes. That was enough time for McKenna and Connor to trade life stories and add as friends on Snapchat. Parked under the Greene, the two said goodbye: one safely home and the other soon to be. Connor drove home alone, happy to have met and hoping to meet again. Two weeks passed until their first message. McKenna invited Connor to watch a Clemson football game at Sip. Connor said yes. Their Snap Streak continues to this day.
