Who remembers that obnoxiously large white truck with stacks that you could hear from a mile away that would blow through the streets of Evans? That was what I knew of Spencer Murray. Luckily he came to his senses and downsized to a truck more suitable but I'll tell ya, he knew how to make an entrance plowing up our driveway to see Kenna. To think about how young the two of them were when they met to how far they've come today, it is nothing short of God's doing. I remember when people would ask me about my sisters I would include the status of McKenna and Spencer's relationship, confidently saying "they'll get married one day". I never got tired of saying it - I just secretly hoped that I would one day be as sure of my own future. I can now tell you being married is one of the biggest blessings in life and I'm so excited for your future together. October 19th can't get here soon enough!
First day of freshman year of high school, I met McKenna in Coach Lee’s health class - McKenna was wearing a pink gingham skirt with green grasshoppers on it. She, Spencer, and I all had the class together. We became friends right away, but it took a little longer for McKenna and Spencer to realize that they were meant to be. McKenna and Spencer started dating junior year of high school and never looked back! Fast forward to college, Spencer and I started together at GCSU in Milledgeville and he continued to be one of my best friends. Meanwhile, McKenna started at UGA, but only lasted one semester in the big city of Athens, GA before transferring to GCSU in Milledgeville to be closer to Spencer (and I’d like to think me too). We had the best semester together until Spencer left Milledgeville to go back to Augusta to be closer to his family. Some of the best weekends of college were those when Spencer came to visit and we were all together. Spencer and McKenna have always had the strongest relationship - they were long distance five out of their eight years of dating! I think their secret is that they always put one another above themselves. I like to think that I’ve always been their favorite third wheel :) The two of them have been there for me through thick and thin - both separately and as a couple. Now they are finally not long distance anymore, thriving in their careers, and finally getting married! I am so honored to celebrate alongside my favorite couple.
How often is it that high school sweethearts weather the storms of life and remain committed to each other for four years? How often do high school sweethearts go their separate ways to college and maintain their love for each other in a long distance relationship? And how often do high school sweethearts graduate from college and step out into the real world with careers and continue to love each other? It is so rare these days, but McKenna and Spencer and two very rare individuals. God knew exactly what he was doing when He put these two together. They are a testament to all of the goodness that can happen when you love the Lord and walk by faith. I see how He has guided each of you through life's ups and downs and through the challenges you've had to face. I am delighted to gain another daughter-in-law that is perfect for my son. I can't wait to see what God has in store for this special couple. Love you both!
We met freshman year of high school and our friendship started pretty much right away. We had several classes together that year, but it wasn't until the end of sophomore year that we started to develop stronger feelings for one another. We were paired up as chemistry lab partners quite often, and we always had so much fun together. (Side note from McKenna: It was during this class that I remember telling a friend of mine that I was going to date Spencer. Keep in mind, we were still friends at this point..but I just had a feeling!!) Fast forward to finals week, and we just happened to finish our chemistry final around the same time. We left class together and decided to go to Chick-Fil-A (duh) for what would become our very first "date". We spent the next month or so getting to know each other before officially becoming boyfriend and girlfriend on June 16th, 2011. It has been the most wonderful eight years, full of love and laughter even through lots of growth and change. To this day, we are still amazed by all of the things that had to happen for us to cross paths (McKenna was born in Germany, for goodness sakes!), and we are so thankful to the Lord for bringing us together. He has given us a beautiful relationship, and we are so excited to become even closer to Him and each other through our marriage. We can't wait to finally become husband and wife on October 19th!
