McKay and Drake’s story began over nine years ago, when they were just 13 and 14 years old. It all started at one of Drake’s baseball games — McKay happened to walk by the team bus, and Drake immediately took his shot. He got the whole bus banging on the windows to get her attention, held up his phone, and mouthed the words, “Call me.” And...., she did — and that moment kicked off a love story that would grow with them through the years. They dated on and off throughout their teens, navigating life, school, and growing up — always finding their way back to each other no matter what season they were in. They even tried seeing other people at one point, but quickly realized that nothing compared to the connection they shared. During college, McKay went to Ole Miss and Drake went off to work. Despite not being a fan of Oxford, Drake made the trips to see her — proof that he was all in. After graduation, the two moved back home, moved in together, and Drake stepped away from life on the road so they could finally begin building a life side by side. Drake’s proposal was as thoughtful and personal as their love story. He cleared a lane through the pasture on the land where they plan to build their future home, bushhogging a circle and lining it with six dozen roses and candles. He had even hoped the cows would make a sweet appearance in the background — but instead, they ate all the roses and knocked everything over. And somehow, that made it even more perfect. From a teenage glance across a baseball field to building a future together in the place they love most — McKay and Drake’s love story is one rooted in timing, resilience, and a bond that’s only grown stronger with time.
