How We Met

Childhood Crushes

Taylor and McKara grew up only seven miles from each other and attended the same schools their whole lives. Taylor and McKara's little brother played baseball, football, and wrestled together throughout their childhoods and high school. Taylor asked McKara to be his date to the SHS freshman year homecoming dance. He convinced her favorite teacher to send her to the principals office. As the good kid McKara was, she walked to the office with tears running down her face, just to meet Taylor at the office door with a sign that read "Even bad kids need a date to homecoming, too." The rumor is that he stayed up all night long to make that poster for her. Taylor and McKara both still have many fun memories of that freshman year homecoming night. Taylor and McKara remained friends throughout high school and college, but Taylor says that since that homecoming night, he was determined to marry someone just like McKara. It wasn't until April of 2020 when Taylor reached out to McKara once more, maybe with more curiosity of a serious relationship this time. When Taylor came to visit McKara, things seemed to pick up exactly where they left off. They both had been so comfortable with each other their whole lives, which allowed love to sweep in fast. They went on dates all summer long and continued to date long-distance when senior year of college started in August of 2020. Flash forward to April 2021, and Taylor got on one knee to ask McKara if she would be his best friend forever. She agreed and that became one of the happiest days of their lives! After the wedding in July of 2021, Taylor will become a Chinook helicopter pilot for the US Army National Guard. McKara will be a full-time student earning her Masters of Social Work with a focus on mental health. They will be living on post in Fort Rucker, AL, for a few years before moving back to Iowa, where Taylor will be stationed next.
