Max and Mary went on their first date in April 2021, planned as a night at the restaurant Walter’s in Clinton Hill, Brooklyn. We say “planned” because when Max and Mary got there, Walter’s had over an hour wait. Max swears they didn’t take reservations, but to this day Mary is pretty sure he just forgot to make one. With some time to kill, Mary suggested they get tall boys at a bodega (if you know Mary, you know they were Allagash White) and head across the street to Fort Greene Park. At this suggestion, Max was already in love. They didn’t stop laughing from their first moment together (we’ll keep those jokes off our wedding website though) and by the time Walter’s called to say their table was ready - both knew this was going to be something special. They ended up closing the place down that night, and by July were officially dating. The next three years were packed with unforgettable moments together, big and small - from getting lost on the streets of Tokyo, to getting lost at a Florida Benihana (don’t ask). In July 2024, Max and Mary returned to Fort Greene Park, where he asked her to marry him. Just like on their first date, they didn’t stop laughing together the entire time (after Max’s nerves went away, and he was able to form semi-coherent sentences again). And now we’re so excited to celebrate this November with all of you! So, here’s to many more unplanned dates that turn into the best night ever — just maybe without the waiting part.
