Dry Ridge, Kentucky

"That Summer"

It started out with a kiss, and grew into much more.

It was a rainy Kentucky summer and our young hero was set to play the lead in Little Shop of Horrors. Little did he know, it was monsoon season and he would have precious few opportunities to grace the stage. With all this unexpected free time, he made many friends. One of which was a local girl who really caught his eye: the sawdust in her hair, the paint on her jeans, the incessant cursing of spiders in her spotlight... She was magical. And he fell in love.

A Promise In The Woods

In secret, they each hatched a plan.

Three years, thousands of miles, and one rambunctious child later, one thing had become very clear: Alex and Erin were meant to be together. They both knew an anniversary vacation would be the perfect place to propose. A romantic horseback ride was booked. Would Erin propose from horseback on the beach? Would Alex bend the knee in the sweeping Marin Headlands, as their horses grazed peacefully in the background? The universe had different plans entirely. That morning, they went for a walk amongst the redwoods. In a wild part of the forest, they forged their own path, following their feet until they heard the insistent calls of two ravens. Enticed by the prospect of adventure, the couple followed. The ravens led them, branch to branch, deeper into the woods until they finally came to rest above a Fairy Ring: a giant cavern sunken into the center of a circle of towering redwoods. It was a stunning picture, and Erin felt overwhelmed with the magic of the moment. She fiddled with the ring already tucked safely into her pocket. The ravens cawed their encouragements overhead, and she asked the most important question of her life. The forest hushed, awaiting an answer. Alex said yes before her knee could hit the ground. :)
