Evan has been in graduate school pursuing her Master's Degree in Special Education since she and Jordan met. Many weekends have consisted of doing homework and lesson planning before going on dates. This May, before the final semester of graduate school, Jordan virtually purchased an engagement ring, originally planning to propose on his annual family beach trip to Hilton Head Island in June. Due to covid related delays, the ring didn't arrive until mid-July. Once having "the talk" with Evan's dad, Jordan communicated with Evan's principal and arranged for her to have Friday, August 28 off from work so that they could have a long weekend at Ocean Isle Beach, where both have visited since childhood. The week before the trip, Jordan surprised her with the news of the day off and trip, and they drove down Thursday night. The next morning, before going on a walk with Evan's dog, Caddy, Jordan asked Evan if she had everything she needed before leaving the condo. She said she thought she did, and Jordan got down on one knee, pulled out the ring, and said, "What about this?". She said, "Oh my gosh, yes!", and they proceeded to go on their walk with Evan staring at her hand the entire time!
