A twist on the modern love story. We matched on not one, but two separate dating apps before someone made the first move (spoiler alert, it was Ali). We weren't able to meet up for a first date for a couple of weeks after we matched, but it made for a refreshing change of pace from how dating apps normally work. It forced us to slow down and really get to know each other. We quickly bonded over our...uniquely twisted sense of humor in that time as well as a shared trauma from finding out we worked for the same company very briefly. And there was an astronomical amount of depraved memes sent back and forth. We showed our red flags to each other early! When our first date came, Jake found himself at a loss for words, and Ali found that she couldn't stop talking, to the point where she forgot there was a plate of tacos sitting in front of her. If you know anything about us, that is polar opposite from our personalities. Things seemed right from the beginning, and we weren't the only ones who thought so. We'd later find out that a kind stranger paid for our dinner after seeing us across the room and being reminded of her newlywed niece and her husband. Two people who, she says, "were really meant for each other." We made things official that night, and the rest happened very quickly afterward. Jake was the first to say "I love you" a month later. By six months, Ali, Target, and Sheldon made themselves at home in Toulon. And before a year was up, the two of us brought our first dog, Potato, home...in the middle of a blizzard. Sorry, Jake. Jake planned a photoshoot for our two-year anniversary in February of 2025. It was thoughtfully set to take place at the Luthy Botanical Garden - playing off of Ali's undying love for her houseplants.
