We met at a Halloween party. Hailey dressed as a Notre Dame football coach and even though Notre Dame lost, Dan won. If Dan had known he was going to meet his future wife that night, he would have chosen a more appropriate costume, which could be shared here. :)

Dan had the ring in his possession since early March 2023. Hailey likes to tell Dan that he is HORRIBLE at keeping secrets, and he is. In the summer of 2021 and 2022, Dan and Hailey had attended Taste of Omaha and got a caricature of themselves. Dan had planned to take Hailey to Taste of Omaha in June 2023 and planned to ask the caricature artist to draw a picture of him proposing and proposing in a way that would be unique to us. However, Hailey was in Thailand with family visiting her brother over that weekend. Dan had a caricature artist draw a custom caricature (of the future proposal) and planned Dan and Hailey's very own "Taste of Omaha" picnic at a nearby park. Dan proposed at the picnic with his sister, Lauren, carefully sneaking up behind the couple to photograph the entire thing. Following the proposal and two mini bottles of champagne, Dan convinced Hailey to stop by a restaurant nearby to use the restroom, have a celebratory drink, and then call family to share the good news. What Hailey did not know was our families and friends were already there waiting to celebrate. Hailey still cannot believe Dan was able to keep this a secret.
