Question

Are there any cultural customs I may want to know about?

Answer

Rosemary Pins- Represent love, fidelity, and remembrance. Signify the guests status as part of the couple's family and community. Buying the Bride- The groom offers gifts and money to the bride's family, proving his worth and commitment. Drinking from the Buklija- A welcoming that symbolizes the joining of the families and promotes prosperity and good fortune. Pinning of the Plaid- Signifies the Bride becoming a part of the Groom's family. Breaking Bread- Bread is broken over the couple to invoke God's blessing of health, prosperity, abundance, fertility, and a spiritually fruitful marriage. Kum/Kuma- The couple standing up there behind the Bride and Groom during the ceremony are meant to act as Godparents for the marriage, offering guidance in both the material world and the spiritual. The Candles- The candles held by the couple during the ceremony are meant to represent the light of Christ, guiding the couple through life. Long Chants & Repetition- Orthodox services are full of chants, incense, and prayers repeated three times to honor the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit). The Dance of Isaiah- The couple follows the priest around the alter/small table three times to represent the Holy Trinity and that the marriage is rooted in faith. The Crowning- The crowning means the couple is royalty, martyrs, and victors, blessed to rule their home with love and to walk life's path together under God's grace. Foot Stomping- The foot stomp at the end of the ceremony predicts who'll be "in charge"- but really, it's about starting marriage with humor, luck, and a reminder to keep things playful. Toasts- It is customary to maintain eye contact with someone while toasting glasses; thus, you may ruffle some feathers if you don't do your best impersonation of a hawk while taking that shot.

Question

Will there be a gap at any point?

Answer

Yes. The ceremony ends at 12:15pm and the reception begins at 3:45pm. Accounting for travel time, this means there will be approximately a 3 hour gap where guests can freshen up, rest, or just generally do what they need to before the reception.

Question

What are the colors for the bridal party?

Answer

Fall colors

Question

How to dance the Serbian folk Dances?

Answer

These dances are about joy and unity, not perfection. While we offer these videos to help everyone learn them, by no means should you feel like you need to sit out because you don't know it. We are here to celebrate the circle of life and love together. Question

When do I need to RSVP by?

Answer

We ask that you RSVP no later than July 31st, so that we can deliver accurate guest count and food orders to the reception venue.

Question

How do I RSVP?

Answer

You can RSVP right here on our website. If you are having trouble with it, you can call the bride or groom directly.

Question

Will any parts of the wedding be outdoors?

Answer

Yes. The traditions in the morning will be mostly outdoors and the reception will be partially outdoors.

Question

Is there parking available?

Answer

The bride’s house has limited parking and guests will likely need to park along the side of the street. The church has plenty of parking on site. The reception has some parking on premises, more in a nearby sand lot, and some along the street. We encourage carpooling where possible.

Question

What is the weather like in the area?

Answer

The weather in central Florida is hot and humid, even late into the fall. Parts of the wedding will be outdoors, so please stay hydrated.

Question

Am I allowed to bring a plus one/kids?

Answer

We have tried to make sure any significant others and children were included in your party already. If you don’t see them there, please reach out to the bride or groom! We are not allowing general plus ones due to limitations on the size of the guest list.

Question

Will there be an open bar?

Answer

Yes, we will have an open bar. You mean a lot to us and so we ask that our guests please drink responsibly!
