Our family and friends are spread across the globe—in fact, our guest list spans 17 states and 6 countries! Because of this, there simply wasn't a location that wouldn't require most of our loved ones to travel. We chose Puerto Rico because it holds a special place in our hearts. During our years in New York, it was our favorite escape from the cold winter months—a beautiful, accessible getaway where we've made many wonderful memories together. Travel to Puerto Rico is also straightforward for guests coming from within the United States. We understand that destination weddings can require additional time, planning, and expense, and we never take that lightly. Having our loved ones celebrate with us means the world to us, and we're happy to help however we can with finding affordable travel and lodging options. Additionally, any contributions made to our honeymoon fund can be redirected to help offset travel costs for guests who need assistance. If attending presents a financial challenge, please don't hesitate to reach out. We would love to work with you to help make the trip possible and celebrate together in Puerto Rico!
Puerto Rico is an American territory and does not require a passport for Americans entering from anywhere within the United States. However, adults (18+) must present a REAL ID. While there is no identification requirement for children traveling with a parent, airlines may request proof of age. A school ID, birth certificate, or similar form of identification is recommended. First, thank you for traveling from so far away to celebrate our wedding day! For foreign visitors, standard U.S. port-of-entry procedures apply, including passport control and customs inspection. In most cases, a U.S. tourism visa is required. However, citizens of some countries (e.g., Lithuania, U.K., etc.) will automatically qualify for a U.S. visa waiver. For more information on U.S. entry requirements, visit: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/tourism-visit.html To check if you qualify for the U.S. visa waiver program, visit: https://www.dhs.gov/visa-waiver-program
We planned our wedding to align with Presidents’ Day weekend (a U.S. holiday on Monday, February 15). We’ll be arriving the evening of 2/13 and staying in San Juan through 2/21. Throughout the week, we plan to reserve a variety of optional tourist excursions —including a highly recommended sailing tour—which will be shared on the events calendar here. All are welcome to join! We know that not everyone can stay for the full week, so please feel free to plan a shorter visit if that works better for you.
Most Puerto Ricans are fluent in both English and Spanish.
We will have a discounted hotel room block at the Condado Ocean Club, where the wedding will take place. Individuals may contact Condado Ocean Club Hotel at +1 787-625-6000 or via email: reservations@condadooc.com in order to reserve a room. Callers must reference the group name: Meghan & Matthew's Wedding Group to obtain the negotiated group rate. Booking is available until November 19. The cost will be $359 per night for a room facing the laguna or $419 per night for a room facing the ocean. Balcony rooms are not placed on hold and availability will be confirmed at the time of request. Rates are based on single or double occupancy. There is an extra person charge of $40 per person per night for a maximum of 4 adults. The room type (King or two Queen beds) will be assigned based on hotel availability. Please notify the hotel at the time of booking if you would like a King bed. Unfortunately, all guests must be 21+ years old. For more affordable options nearby, or if traveling with guests under age 21, we suggest booking your stay through Airbnb (https://www.airbnb.com/) or Vrbo (https://www.vrbo.com/).
Condado is the closest neighborhood to the wedding venue and will also be the most convenient for restaurants, cafes, bars, and beach volleyball. Ocean Park is a cute residential neighborhood within short distance (around 10 minutes driving or 35 minutes walking on the beach) to the wedding venue. It's also near our favorite beach club, Numero Uno. Kite surfing lessons can be reserved on the beach (although it will cost your left kidney...) Make sure you stay north of the street Calle Loiza, which is the cleanest and safest area. Old San Juan is a short drive (around 10-15 minutes) to the wedding venue. This is a neighborhood with beautiful, historic Spanish colonial architecture and breathtaking views of the coastline, although it's not safe for swimming. Isla Verde is also a short drive (around 10-15 minutes) to the wedding venue. This is the closest neighborhood to the airport and there are several beachfront resort options. However, there is not much happening outside the resorts. We do not recommend staying outside of these neighborhoods due to both safety and convenience.
If you plan to stay in San Juan, you can absolutely get by without a car. The area around the wedding venue is very walkable and the Uber app works as normal within the tourist areas. However, there are some considerations to keep in mind. Uber wait times tend to be long (generally around 15 to 30 minutes). Street taxis can only be relied upon when traveling from within Old San Juan, and may require some upfront negotiation to avoid being overcharged. If you plan to leave San Juan (for rainforest, caves, or nicer beaches), you might want to rent a car. For those who choose not to rent a car, consider booking excursions outside San Juan on Viator (https://www.viator.com/) or Trip Advisor (https://www.tripadvisor.com/). Make sure that you check the tour operator rating and reviews before booking. Also note that prices, timing, and availability vary. If you decide to rent a car, we strongly recommend reading the reviews and choosing a well-rated company. Unfortunately, Puerto Rican car rental companies are notoriously terrible ("Oops, sorry - we don't actually have a car for you") and we have heard horror stories of pick-up wait times up to 8 hours. The process of renting from a 5-star company should be much faster and seamless.
Limited street parking is available in most neighborhoods — except Old San Juan. There may be time limits for metered spots, especially near the beach. However, there are no alternate side parking laws. Paid garages are also an option, and hotels or Airbnbs may offer free or low-cost parking options for guests.
We recommend summer beach wedding attire. For women, think a breezy cocktail dress paired with open-toed shoes. For men, linen or khaki pants with a button-down shirt—or a lightweight suit—are great options. Jackets are optional. The ceremony will be held on an outdoor terrace overlooking the beach, with the reception indoors. Heels are absolutely welcome! If you’re in the wedding party, we suggest bringing a pair of flip-flops as well—we’ll likely snap a few photos on the sand.
For a relaxed atmosphere with plenty of great options for dinner and drinks, we recommend Condado. Old San Juan offers a similar mix, with a more European, historic charm. If you’re in the mood for something livelier (e.g., late-night clubbing vibes), head to La Placita.
Absolutely!
