Travel Note
The Aspen/Pitkin County Airport (ASE) is located about 30 minutes by car from Carbondale. You can expect Aspen to have the highest ticket prices, but it is the most convenient option. There is a wonderful public bus system (RFTA) that can get you from Aspen to Carbondale for a nominal rate. Denver International Airport (DEN) is the large airport approximately 3 hours by car from Carbondale. Expect the most cost-effective ticket prices, but you will need to plan another leg of transportation from Denver to Carbondale (more below). Eagle-Vail Airport (EGE), approximately 1 hour by car from Carbondale. Grand Junction Regional Airport (GJT) is approximately 1.5 hours by car from Carbondale.
Travel Note
By Car There are two routes by car from Denver to Carbondale. From Denver International Airport, take I-70 West to Glenwood Springs (exit 116). Follow signs to Highway 82 which leads to Carbondale. Take the scenic route via Independence Pass. Drive west on I-70 and take the exit for I-91 South. Travel through Leadville, then west onto Highway 82 over Independence Pass, through Aspen and continue down Highway 82 to Carbondale. This is highly recommended for beautiful scenery if you are comfortable driving on mountain pass roads. By Train Amtrak service is available from Denver to Glenwood Springs, which is 13 miles from Carbondale. Visit www.amtrak.com for more information. By Bus Bustang is a public bus that offers service from Denver to Glenwood Springs, which is 13 miles from Carbondale. Visit www.ridebustang.com for more information.
