Our first date

Our first date was also the first time we met in person. Nic and I matched on tinder in 2019 and we texted and talked on the phone for weeks before we made plans to have dinner. I was so nervous to meet him I almost canceled but I’m so glad I didn’t! One of the things Nic and I bonded over was our love for sushi so we had our first date at yellowtail in Clarksville, TN. I’m pretty shy so when the date started I was very quiet and very nervous but Nic did most of the talking at first and gave me time to warm up. We sat at a table outside and talked for hours. We were both pretty unsure until the moment we realized four hours had passed and we just knew we were meant for each other.

Let’s get a puppy!

Churro

I have always wanted a Bernese mountain dog so I was looking at puppies online. I was sending Nic sooo many pictures of fat little puppies from all over! He was a little on the fence about a big dog until I found a picture of a very sad looking little puppy. When we found Churro we knew that was our dog and we would do anything to bring him home. I contacted the rescue about him and filled out an application. That was when I found out he was the last of his litter and the runt. The day we picked him up Nic and I took a 10 hour road trip to get our first baby. It was the most fun I’ve ever had while stuck in the car. Nic loves to play 2000’s hits while he sings and dances along! I had never met anyone as silly as him and while we goofed off I watched him in amazement. After we got Churro and got back on the road to head home Churro curled up on the bench seat of Nics truck and put his head on Nics arms and my heart melted.

Our engagement

Nic and I had a very very short engagement and by short I mean we started planning our wedding before there was a ring. We decided at the beginning of 2022 we would get married before the year was over but when Nic found out he was getting deployed that plan changed. We talked about waiting until he got back but one day while he was on the computer I sat on his desk and asked if he was sure he wanted to marry me and he said yes so I asked why we are waiting. I told him I loved him I want to be his wife for the rest of my life so why wait. We then decided to have a very small ceremony in our back yard and so instead of getting engaged we got married.

Our first home

When Nic and I decided to buy a house together we both romanticized what that experience would be like. I thought we would look and agree on everything then we would find our dream house but as some might already know that’s not what happened at all. Nic and I are polar opposites and that makes agreeing difficult. We looked at soooo many houses! Some were my style and some were his but we just couldn’t agree on one. Eventually we had to sit down and come up with a compromise. We made lists of what we were looking for and we decided to buy a house based off of what our lists had in common. Our home was far from either of our dream houses but with a lot of work we have made it a home and neither of us would change that for anything.

Our first year as a married couple

Nic and I spent the first nine months of our marriage in different countries. Nic got deployed less than a month after we got married and it has been difficult to say the least. Fortunately we have been able to text and talk on the phone and even FaceTime occasionally. Some people say distance makes the heart grow fonder and I don’t know how it’s possible but it’s so true.
