We love traveling to new destinations and learning about unique cultures. When planning our wedding, we knew that we wanted our guests to experience a new city while returning from your travels learning more about a different culture and maybe falling in love food that you have never tried before. Oaxaca was the perfect place that blended all of our needs. Oaxaca is the food center of Mexico and the most ethnically-diverse state in the country. We hope that you’re excited to explore the city with us!
Festive cocktail attire is highly encouraged. Think of bright colors and fun printed cocktail dresses. Men, you can wear a colorful suit jacket or button down shirt. Tan suit jacket is fine. Still unsure of what this means? Click the link below to learn more about the dress code or you can search "festive cocktail" on Google or TikTok. https://tinyurl.com/4jstzf8k Please do not wear black or white. Ladies, please keep in mind that the streets of Oaxaca are cobblestone. We recommend wearing comfortable shoes (block heels/wedges or flats). The temperature drops once the sun goes down, bring appropriate light jacket or shawl.
Unless you have been personally told otherwise, all wedding events will be adult-only (18+). Our amazing wedding planner, Friederike, will provide contact information for a babysitter if needed. Please reach out to her if you wish to make arrangements for child care at oaxacadestinationweddings@gmail.com
That is completely up to you! We only ask that you attend wedding festivities on Saturday, August 17. We are in the process of planning group excursions and a cocktail hour on Friday, August 16 for guests who plan to come earlier. Check back at a later date for more information on these activities.
Yes, we will have an open bar for our guests.
Oaxaca City Centre is super walkable and pedestrian-friendly! All wedding weekend activities, and recommended hotels and restaurants, are within a relatively short walking distance. There should be no need for a hire car, taxi or public transportation while you're there (apart from getting you to/from the airport) or when going on tours outside of the city.
The average high for August is in the 80s with the low around 50. There is always a chance of light rain during the month of August.
Like many places, the answer is unfortunately not. The water contains bacterias that can make a foreigner sick, so please refrain from drinking any tap water. Restaurants will fill your water glasses once you sit down, and they use filtered water to do so. Their livelihoods depend on foreign tourism, and it's obviously in their best interest to keep you healthy. However, if you'd like bottled water brought to the table, please ask for still ("agua natural") or sparkling ("agua mineral") and they'll bring it right over.
Yes, and the general rule of thumb is 15-20% gratuity ("Propina" or "Servicio").
Yes, but please be street smart as you would in any city. During the evening, it's always recommended to stick to well-lit streets and travel together.
