Alex and Tyler met by luck and chance in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Alex accidentally matched with Tyler on Bumble (an online dating app) after her age filters went haywire and she initiated a conversation with him to meet. Tyler invited Alex to get ice cream on a hot Sunday afternoon in August. After he realized the original spot he'd chosen was closed on Sundays, they got scoops from the Michigan Creamery on State Street in Ann Arbor and sat under a tree for 3 hours talking about anything and everything. After that the rest was history!
It was a summer Thursday night and we had dinner plans in the South End - a fun and trendy neighborhood in Boston, MA. It had been just over a month since we have moved from Ann Arbor and we were in the middle of a summer of exploration in the new city we'd chosen for the next chapter of our lives. Unbeknownst to Alex, we also had dessert reservations scheduled for later that night at the Boston Harbor Hotel, an old historic landmark downtown on the waterfront. As we're at dinner sitting at a table by the window, Boston proceeded to be hit by flood warning-level thunderstorms which had Tyler quite nervous...the dessert reservations (and proposal site) were outdoors. With Alex at least somewhat unsuspecting, we arrived at the Boston Harbor Hotel with rain still pouring down from the sky. Tyler had also hired a photographer to capture the moment, who he spotted in the corner waiting for the big moment. Realizing he couldn't wait any longer for the rain to clear without giving it away, Tyler proposed under the iconic arches of the hotel (and not out by the water). Less than 5 mins after the proposal, the rain cleared up and left a magnificent rainbow spanning the Boston harbor, which we captured in the photos after the proposal! A sign of great things to come!
