Let's cut to the chase, folks -- we met on a dating app! And we are happy and available to be your newest sponsors, Hinge dating app, so please slide into our DMs to connect and sponsor our entire wedding! #sponsored #ad #justkidding #wewish But really, the story is indeed a little more kismet than that. While it all began with a mutual swipe "yes" in spring 2019 followed by some light and witty banter via text, it nearly ended just as quickly when Emily accidentally ghosted Dan for a couple weeks. Our consistently communicative Emily would never have given up on the text chat just like that, but little did Dan know she was in the midst of a major life transition, leaving her career in advertising to begin grad school for a career in mental health. In the midst of the chaos, she forgot to reply to him for weeks, leaving her future darling hanging. Meanwhile, our mild-mannered Dan wouldn't normally have reached back out with the Hail Mary effort...but luckily, he found the courage to text and check in on setting up a first date one final time. Emily, grateful to hear back from him (within the very same week of her last day in advertising and her first grad school interview) quickly replied, and the date was set for 7pm, Saturday, May 11, 2019. Ever the independent woman, Emily didn't typically offer a weekend night for a first date, but something told her that Dan might just be worth it. Meet up they did at the iconically Chicago, iconically magical Guthrie's Tavern, from 7pm until after 2am (we checked our cab receipts!). Hours and beers and much under-the-table-knee-flirting later, they left the bar, kissed on the sidewalk, went their separate ways home, and never opened the Hinge app again. ♥
