We’re Getting Married!

In college we were paired for a formal event, completely at random. Although we had some brief interactions beforehand, we both remember feeling a mix of excitement and nervousness, not knowing what our night would be like. When we met, there was instant chemistry and we were both immediately put at ease. The night was filled with laughter and music, and we quickly hit it off. As we danced and chatted, I (Emily) noticed a stream of people coming up to Kole, wishing him a happy birthday. Each time, Kole would just chuckle and insist it was a joke. I played along, believing him, but a part of me was curious. As the night went on, I started to piece things together. The way his friends kept teasing him about being older, the playful glances—they weren’t just jokes. Eventually, I confronted him, laughing as I said, “Are you seriously telling me it’s not your birthday?” (Such a Kole move!) With a sheepish grin, he finally admitted it was true. I felt a mix of surprise and delight, realizing how spontaneous and fun the night had become, even with that little secret. We ended up celebrating in our own way, sharing stories and dancing the night away. That unexpected pairing turned out to be the start of something special, and now, every year on Koles’s birthday, we can’t help but remember that unforgettable night we met.
