One Wednesday night in 2013, Rich and Greg Dixon sat at Harry’s on Fillmore. Soon, two ladies, Stephanie and Katie Wescott walked in and sat at the bar. Rich—not so subtly—stole a few glances at the one who more evenly matched his stature (i.e. the girl he was taller than). Stephanie pulled a phone charger from her purse, and though his battery life was just fine, Rich asked if he could charge his “almost dead” phone. They were joined by the girls’ friend, Summer. And shockingly, managed to turn a sleepy Wednesday night into anything but. Suddenly, Rich saw Stephanie walking out the front door—in true Irish Goodbye fashion. Rich ran after her, walked her to a cab, and said goodnight, but forgot one thing: to ask for her phone number. Next morning, Rich knew four things: Stephanie’s name, that Katie having a birthday party that night, where it was being held, and that he had to see Stephanie again. A resourceful guy, Rich contacted a promoter friend at the bar where Katie was having her birthday. In five minutes, he had Katie’s Facebook and messaged her. And this is where the story could have gone 1 of 2 ways: 1st 1. Katie tells Stephanie, the guy from Harry’s messaged her about seeing Stephanie again. 2. Stephanie’s stalk-o-meter goes off. 3. Stephanie tells Katie to tell Rich to “Beat it creep” 2nd 1. Katie tells Stephanie, the guy from Harry’s messaged her about seeing Stephanie again. 2. Steph swoons that a guy she met for just one night went through such lengths to get in touch with her. 3. Steph agrees to go to Betelnut on a first date, is convinced Rich has paid an elderly gentleman to say she’s “the most beautiful girl in the restaurant”, they fall madly in love. Six short years later, she accepts Rich’s proposal of marriage! You all know which path Steph chose, and there’s no one more happy—or lucky—than the guy with the “dead phone”, the Facebook creeper, Rich Wright.
