What does "garden party formal" mean?

A lot of people mistake "formal" to mean "black-tie". This is not the case. Just dress nice like you would at any other wedding. :) Most of all we just want to see your lovely faces. If you're interested in dressing "on theme", here's some ideas: Women: Think floral prints, ruffles, silk/satin, pastels, soft jewel tones, or sophisticated solids. Olive, chartreuse, plum and burgundy are also very popular colors for weddings this year! Midi or floor-length dresses, or dressy jumpsuits. Block heels, wedges, dressy flats, cowboy boots even work (anything appropriate for grass). Men: suit or blazer with dress pants, tie is often appropriate, lighter colors like tan, blue, sage, grey. Dress shoes or loafers.
