How We Met

October 10, 2012

Hillsboro, OR In the world of online dating, Matthew and Christine's story began with a virtual wink on Match.com. Matthew's alluring smile in his profile picture caught Christine's eye, and she couldn't wait to start messaging him. The content of those initial messages remains a charming mystery to this day. After a few weeks of messaging, they decided to meet in person. On October 10th, 2012, they had their first face-to-face encounter at BJ's Restaurant in Hillsboro, OR. It wasn't your typical romantic first date; it felt more like an interview, where they spent three hours asking questions, sharing stories, and getting to know each other better. It may not have been the stuff of romantic novels, but it certainly laid the foundation for something special. The conclusion of that memorable evening remains a topic of debate. Christine recalls Matthew shaking her hand as if closing a business deal, while Matthew insists he has no recollection of such formality. Regardless of their differing memories, that night marked the beginning of a remarkable journey neither of them could have anticipated. It turned out to be a deal of a lifetime!

The Proposal

November 26, 2022

Venice, Italy Their dream of visiting Italy had been on hold for years, with life's challenges throwing them off course. Despite it all, Matthew and Christine clung to the hope of one day embarking on their Italian adventure. During those trying times, they immersed themselves in food travel shows, making lists of every Italian culinary gem they would one day savor. Finally, in November of 2022, their dream materialized into reality. Over 11 unforgettable days, they explored and indulged in the delights of Rome, Florence, Bologna, Modena, and the enchanting Venice. It was in this city, often hailed as one of the world's most romantic, that Matthew chose to propose. Under the soft morning light, as they strolled along the Grand Canal near St. Mark's Square, Matthew knelt before Christine. Tears of joy streamed down their faces, laughter filled the air, and words became a blur in their overwhelming emotions. Matthew insists Christine never uttered a formal "Yes," claiming she simply smiled and eagerly requested the ring. In her memory, she recalls Matthew declaring her as the source of his utmost happiness, and she undoubtedly responded with a heartfelt "Yes!" Fortunately, Matthew had the foresight to hire a photographer to capture this precious moment. The resulting photographs radiate pure happiness, love, and the shared anticipation of the journey ahead. With hearts full of excitement, they look forward to celebrating this new chapter in their lives with all those who have been a part of their incredible journey!
