Flight Information

Traveling to Calabria, Italy, from JFK or Newark: Calabria does not have direct flights from the U.S., so you will need to connect through a major European or Italian airport. Here’s how to plan your journey: -Fly from JFK or Newark to a major European or Italian hub *Your best options are Rome (Fiumicino – FCO) or Milan (Malpensa – MXP) - (*Note: If you fly to Milan, it will take 8+ hours to get to Calabria by train). Other European hubs like Frankfurt, Munich, Paris, or Amsterdam can also work! Connect to Calabria: Option A: Domestic flight From Rome or Milan, take a domestic flight to Lamezia Terme (SUF), the main airport in Calabria. From Lamezia Terme, rent a car or take a taxi to the hotel. Option B: Train travel From Rome or Milan (or other major Italian cities), you can take a train to Calabria. The main train station in Calabria is Lamezia Terme Centrale. High-speed trains (Frecciarossa or Frecciargento) run from Rome to southern Italy, typically taking 4–6 hours. From the train station, you can take a taxi or a local bus to the hotel. Train travel is a scenic, relaxing alternative to flying domestically and avoids extra flight transfers. Alternative via Sicily: Fly into Catania (CTA) or Palermo (PMO) in Sicily and then take the ferry to Calabria (the port is about 2 hours from Il Faro Capo Vaticano). OR.. From Catania, take a short flight to Lamezia Terme Airport (SUF) (The closest major airport to Capo Vaticano). • You can rent a car at the airport or arrange a private transfer.

FLYING TO ROME

✈️ Step 1: Fly into Rome Airports: • Fiumicino (FCO) – main international hub • Ciampino (CIA) – mostly low-cost airlines ⸻ 🚆 Step 2: Travel from Rome to Calabria (Capo Vaticano) By Train • From Roma Termini, take a high-speed Frecciarossa/Frecciargento to Lamezia Terme Centrale (~4.5–5 hours). • Then switch to a regional train to Ricadi/Capo Vaticano (~1.5–2 hours). • Total: ~6–7 hours. By Plane (fastest) • Fly Rome → Lamezia Terme (SUF) (~1 hour). • From Lamezia, rent a car (1.5 hrs drive) or take a train to Ricadi (~2 hrs). • Total: ~3–4 hours travel. By Car (road trip option) • Driving Rome → Capo Vaticano takes about 7–8 hours (A1 → A2 Autostrada). • Scenic, with chances to stop in Naples or along the coast. ⸻ 🚖 Step 3: Local Transfer • Closest train stop: Ricadi Station. • Taxis are rare, so best to arrange a hotel shuttle or rent a car from Lamezia. ⸻ ✅ Summary from Rome: • Fastest: Fly to Lamezia → car/train to Ricadi (3–4 hrs total). • Cheapest: Train Rome → Lamezia → Ricadi (~6–7 hrs). • Flexible: Drive (~7–8 hrs) if you want a road trip.
