How We Met

Mayson never believed in love at first sight—until she met Tristan. It wasn’t some dramatic, slow-motion moment straight out of a movie, but something quieter, something that settled into her bones before she even realized it. From the first day of culinary class, she felt it—that unspoken pull toward the boy with the kind eyes, hilarious jokes, and the quiet confidence. And somehow, as if the universe had planned it all along, their seats were placed side by side. What she didn’t know was that it wasn’t luck at all—Tristan had asked to sit next to her. Even then, before she knew what they would become, he had already chosen her. What made their story even crazier was realizing that their paths had crossed long before that day in class. They had grown up just minutes apart, played at the same neighborhood park, and unknowingly shared the same little corner of the world for years. Even more unbelievably, they had both helped cater their high school’s senior prom—working side by side without even knowing that their future was standing right there. Looking back, it was as if fate had been quietly pushing them toward each other all along, waiting for the right moment to finally bring them together. Their connection was effortless, like a conversation that had been paused and was finally resuming. It was in the way their eyes met across the room, the way he’d pass her ingredients without her asking, the way he’d smile at her when she wasn’t looking. And then came the day that changed everything—the day she realized he wasn’t just someone passing through her life. Tristan came over to her house for the first time, completely unaware that he was about to witness her world in all its chaotic glory. Her room was a disaster—clothes everywhere, things stacked in impossible piles, not a single inch of the floor in sight. And then, the moment of true horror: the discovery of her long-forgotten pet chameleon, now nothing more than a tragic, funny, core memory. Mayson panicked. Tears welled up, and before she could think, she ran. She hid, convinced that this was it—this was the moment he’d decide she was too much, too messy, too Mayson. But Tristan didn’t leave. Instead, he found her, wrapped her in his arms, and held her like he had known her forever. He didn’t flinch at the mess, at the tears, at the absolute disaster that had just unfolded. He simply stayed. And in that moment, as he whispered something that made her laugh through her sniffles, Mayson knew. Love wasn’t about perfection—it was about finding someone who saw your chaos and chose to stay anyway. And from that day forward, Tristan stayed. Through every laugh, every tear, every beautiful and unpredictable moment. And Mayson? She loved him more fiercely with each passing day, knowing without a doubt that he was the greatest thing fate had ever given her. Because sometimes, love doesn’t arrive with fireworks. Sometimes, it walks into your life, pulls up a chair next to you, and never leaves.
