We met through an online app named Coffee Meets Bagel (romantic, we know!), and it just so happened that when we both got the notification in the app that we liked one another, Brent was on a vacation in Barcelona. Being how he is, he almost decided to ignore the match because he was on vacation and enjoying himself, but luckily he took a chance and decided to start a conversation. After Brent returned from his trip, we decided to get coffee. We met at the most romantic place in New York possible... Penn Station. Despite the less than ideal location for meeting a potential romance for the first time, we were both enamored with one another. And before we knew it, a coffee date turned into a walk through the city, trip to a wine bar, dinner, speakeasy, and finally a nightclub where people wear bathrobes and sit in igloos on the rooftop (don't ask). The point is, we knew we had something special. We could not be apart from one another after that first date. I don't think we knew quite how special just yet, but it was the start of something beautiful. And the rest is history.

Nós nos conhecemos num aplicativo online chamado “Coffee Meets Bagel” (romântico, não? Rs). Quando fomos notificados que gostamos um do outro no aplicativo, Brent estava de férias em Barcelona. Brent, estando de férias, quase ignorou a notificação, mas decidiu iniciar uma conversa com Mayra. Depois que Brent retornou da sua viagem, nós decidimos nos encontrar para tomar um café. Nós nos encontramos no lugar mais romântico possível de Nova York, a estação de trem rs. Apesar do local não ser ideal pra encontrar um possível romance pela primeira vez, nós ficamos encantados um com o outro. Antes que pudéssemos perceber, o café se estendeu a uma caminhada pela cidade, um bar de vinhos, jantar, mais vinho, e finalmente um clube onde as pessoas se sentam dentro de iglus no topo de um prédio, apreciando o inverno e a cidade de Nova York. Nós sabíamos que tínhamos algo especial, mas ainda não sabíamos o quanto. E o resto é história.

We always dreamed of having a destination wedding in the Maldives for the two of us, and so we had booked the trip for this coming up March. Unfortunately, due to bureaucratic issues related to Mayra's student visa, we found out she would have difficulty leaving the country! With our trip in jeopardy and Mayra unable to travel outside the US until we got married, we discussed our options. We loved each other and were going to do a civil wedding after the vacation regardless, and so, on November 7 we decided to get married as quickly as possible in hopes of being able to get paperwork processed and do the destination wedding that we had booked. As it was a race against time, we set the civil wedding for the following week on Tuesday, November 12. We had to quickly find witnesses, positions which Brent's brother, Troy, and his girlfriend, Marla, were thankfully able to fill. Hilariously, due to a federal holiday on Monday, bad weather Tuesday, and other unforeseen circumstances, we had to delay the wedding another two days, making for a fun story. Luckily the ceremony went off without a hitch, and we are now legally husband and wife.

Nós sempre sonhamos em ter um “destination wedding” nas Maldivas, só nós dois, então reservamos uma viagem pro final de março de 2020. Infelizmente, devido a questões burocráticas relacionadas ao visto de estudante da Mayra, ela teria dificuldades em sair do país! Devido a Mayra não poder viajar fora dos Estados Unidos até que nos casássemos, nós avaliamos nossas opções e, no dia 7 de novembro, resolvemos fazer uma cerimônia civil para nos casarmos o mais rápido possível com a esperança de receber a autorização de viagem da imigração antes de partir para as Maldivas. Foi uma corrida contra o tempo e nós agendamos a cerimônia civil para a terça da próxima semana, 12 de novembro. Tivemos que escolher nossas testemunhas rapidamente, que foram o irmão do Brent (Troy) e sua namorada (Marla), e eles felizmente concordaram. Devido a um feriado nacional na segunda, tempo ruim na terça, e outros imprevistos, nós tivemos que remarcar o casamento para a quinta, 14 de novembro (que história pra contar). Felizmente, a cerimônia aconteceu sem mais imprevistos, e agora nós somos marido e esposa.
