How We Met

School, Work, Ding!

Jake & Tiffany took an interactive web class in one of Tiffany's last semesters at Cal State Long Beach. Their mutual friend, Stephen, mentioned they were in the same class together. They introduced themselves to each other and shared a laugh over a promising app that would soon go on to be successful... Instagram. Tiffany got hired by their teacher and when it came time for Jake to graduate, Jake took the opportunity to work with both of them. They got to know each other through work, dated, then decided to move and build their careers in the tech hub, San Francisco...and the rest is history.

The Proposal

Yes Boo, Mud Shoe

Jake had schemed a "birthday trip" with close friends and family to the big island of Hawaii in November 2018. He took it upon himself to personally invite all attendees. Little did Tiffany know, a birthday celebration wasn't the only thing on the agenda. Other than a Luau on his birthday, Jake asked to plan just one day (out of the 5) where they would go on a road trip to the green, lush side of the big island. They would go to a lookout point, a waterfall, and a botanical garden..and he had 3 chances to find the perfect opportunity for a proposal. The first place, Waipio Lookout, didn't have the right setting Jake wanted, so they made their way to Akaka Falls. Once arriving to the park, they took the long loop, building anticipation while walking through the beautiful, tropical forest. When they finally arrived to the waterfall, it was the PERFECT place for a proposal. Taking pictures the whole time, Jake asked Tiffany and her sister, Sasha, to pose while he took a picture of them with the scenic waterfall in the background. He put his beige canvas shoe on a rock to get just the right angle. His foot slipped off the rock, but he managed to get a good photo of the sisters. When he looked down, his previously white shoe had slid halfway into the mud, minutes before he had planned the proposal. It was at that moment, he knew what knee would go on the ground. Asking to have a picture taken of their backs while they were facing the waterfall, Jake used that opportunity to make his feelings known. Jake turned around and proposed. Tiffany was so excited that she swiped that ring and put it on her own finger. The rest of the day was perfect. They finished at the botanical gardens and enjoyed a nice group dinner in Hilo to celebrate over live Jazz music..their favorite when traveling.
