A historic brickyard that is home to one of the premiere centers for ceramic arts in the world. Walk around the grounds and see hundreds of ceramic sculptures, peek into the studios and see artists at work, and visit the galleries to have your mind blown! This place is truly one of Helena’s biggest treasures.
This is the rehabilitation center for injured wildlife- it has an engaging exhibit with interactive activities including lots of taxidermy and a live Montana fish aquarium. Open and free Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m
Ice cream and a beautiful carousel of hand carved Montana animals.
This little neighborhood is the oldest intact piece of early Helena - built in the 1870’s. Brick walkways and some cute small businesses like Cotton Top Pastries, which is open Friday and Saturday mornings. Our favorite brewery, Blackfoot, is right around the corner.
Helena’s downtown is pretty cute, it is a five block walking mall with a lot of sweet shops, bars, and restaurants. Don’t miss the General Mercentaile for coffee/trinkets, the Hawthorn for wine, the Union for meat / grains from local ranches, or the Old Salt for a local burger, and of course the Gulch Distillery for a cocktail.
A two hour scenic boat tour on the Missouri - lots of Lewis and Clark history, beautiful views, and wildlife.
A great (moderately difficult) 2 hour hike that you can access from downtown Helena
A huge trail network in the south hills, great for hiking or mountain biking
Lots of flat walking trails
