Information on how to get to Isla Mujeres and where to stay!

Travel Note

Travel Overview

How do you get to Isla Mujeres? More details are included in the sections below, but the high level is that Isla Mujeres is easy to get to after arriving in Cancun. You'll have a 20 minute ride via shuttle or taxis from the airport to the ferry terminal. Then a 20 minute ferry ride to the island (ferries depart every 30 minutes). We'll have official events on Friday and Saturday, but are looking into more casual coordination on Thursday and Sunday.

Where to Stay

NOTE: Some Hotels and vacation homes will book up quickly. We recommend you book lodging first as many properties have generous cancellation policies for you to adjust plans as needed. Isla Mujeres has a wide variety of lodging options from smaller boutique hotels to rental homes to all inclusive resorts. We do not have a standard hotel block and encourage people to stay where makes sense based on travel preferences. View our advice here:

Flights

Fly into Cancun International Airport (CUN) You'll need a valid passport to fly to Mexico. Make sure your passport has at least 6 months remaining before expiration date. Things to know when traveling to Isla Mujeres: 1- Travel sites recommend to not book a flight that lands to the Cancun Airport after 8:30 PM (the last ferry to the island is at 11:00 PM) or plan to stay in Cancun and ferry over the next morning. 2- Be cautious when booking a flight that departs the Cancun airport before 9:30 AM. (The first ferry from the island in the morning is 6:00 AM, with a 6:20 AM pick up, you will arrive at the airport by approximately 7:30 AM.)

Getting There - Airport Transfers

Pre-arranged transfer is the easiest and often cheapest option to get from Cancun Airport to the Puerto Juarez (Ultramar) Ferry Terminal in Cancun. The trip is often 30 minutes unless there is heavy traffic. We have used CARM Transfers before and it was seamless. They will take you from Cancun Airport to Port Puerto Juarez where you will catch the ferry to Isla Mujeres. Booking: When booking with CARM they will provide a roundtrip airport shuttle and roundtrip ferry tickets. You'll receive ferry tickets upon arrival. Also, you may book shared rides with other wedding guests if you're arriving at the same time. Don't forget to order your cervezas during your ride to the port. From CARM The promo code CODYANDALYSSA (no spaces) is valid for all one way & round trip transfers to Isla Mujeres for $5 USD off a round trip transfer or $2 USD off a one way transfer. Your location will auto-fill as: Gran Puerto Juarez Ultramar Ferry Dock. You'll also have the option to book ferry tickets with no upcharge. We recommend this as it's easier than dealing with lines when you arrive to the ferry dock, or missing that last minute ferry and waiting another half hour for the next one.

Getting Around Isla Mujeres

Transportation on the Island. Everything in Centro neighborhood, where the ferry lets off and where most hotels are located, is within a short walk. Taxis will be organized to the venue, more information coming soon. If staying outside of Centro, you'll find Taxis will pass by often as they regularly drive the length of the island. The typical fare is $5-15 Golf carts are a popular transport option. If you want to tour the island, a golf cart is the best way to cruise to several spots. Golf carts can be reserved when you arrive and at some places in advance. We'll have more information on golf carts later.
