We met the modern way - online. (Shoutout Hinge!) Kevin’s first message came during a big snowstorm. After a couple days went by without a response, he followed up with a line meant to stand out: “Should I send a search party for you?” That one worked. Not long after, Kevin convinced Maya to meet up for a first date at an Irish pub in Somerville. Maya tried her first Guinness that night (Kevin’s favorite beer), which somehow became our drink. What was supposed to be one drink turned into hours of talking and laughing, feeling like kids staying up way too late and not wanting the night to end. It immediately felt different. Like we’d known each other our entire lives. What still amazes us is how unlikely it all was. Raised in distinct cultures and shaped by different traditions, Maya and Kevin grew up worlds apart. Thousands of miles separated their paths, until fate brought us together. Along the way, we became part of each other’s lives and families. Kevin started learning Portuguese. Maya became a loving, steady presence in Kevin’s kids’ lives. We built something together that felt natural, supportive, and full of love. One of our favorite things to do is escape to the mountains - Hiking, exploring, and taking in the scenery became our thing. It felt only right that Kevin asked Maya to marry him at the top of a mountain, where so many of our best memories were made. We can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of you.
