Kevin and Maya's first date was a walk at Grigg's Reservoir along the Scioto River in Columbus, OH. She had warned him ahead of time that she was going to wear sport shorts and a t-shirt, and Kevin showed up in flip-flops. They talked for a few hours walking back and forth along the river. Maya told him that she would jump in the water if he would, too. Kevin didn't jump. Instead, he took a leap of faith and asked her out on a second date.

Kevin and Maya both flew to Ohio to celebrate the 4th of July with their families. During the drive up from Columbus to Cleveland, they stopped to take one of their favorite hikes at an Alum Creek trail in the woods. There was a chance of rain, but they still embarked on the 3-hour long hike until they finally arrived at their favorite spot. Kevin had Maya stand for a timed picture, and secretly hit the video record button before he joined her by the trees. Kevin surprised her when he got down on one knee, and she said YES!
