Maya's Version - I just moved back home post graduation from Hampton in 2016, and while baking cakes with my Auntie in preparation for my graduation party she very subtly (not at all lol) mentions that she has a friend who has a son, and asked if I was dating anyone. Ironically, a few weeks prior I decided that I was taking a hard pause on dating and focusing on transitioning into adulthood (almost 5 years later, and still transitioning lol), but something about this unexpected introduction felt like Jesus saying I have something else in mind. After affirming that I was open to the introduction, in the midst of my party the next day Anthony texts me, we went on our first date maybe three days later, and the rest is history! Anthony's Version - So boom, I was sitting on the sofa and my mom came in and said she has a friend, who has a niece and suggested we connect.
Anthony's Plan - So I thought of a plan, started to plan it and then the plan went out of the window. It all started with a proposal at Target, Maya's favorite place, or the possibility of putting the ring in a shoe but was told by my team of advisors that those might not be the best ideas. In remembering our early conversations about how her ideal proposal would go, and that I also had to make sure important people were present on the day without being too suspicious, we settled on Christmas Eve and boom I'm about to be a husband! Maya's Reaction - In our years of dating I have learned that Anthony truly cannot hold water lol. Any bit of news, any fragment of surprise might last 5 minutes before Anthony give's it away! Thankfully he was able to hold this for more than 5 minutes, but there was some strange behavior in the days leading up to it. We went to the city the day before to see the tree at Rockefeller Center and oddly stopped into a random jewelry store for him to check my ring size, my mom made it a very big deal that I make sure I got a fresh manicure and wear something not too casual to Anthony's parents very casual annual Christmas Eve party, just a few of many things that got my mind thinking that something might be happening. But, nonetheless when I walked up the steps to see Anthony on bended knee all I could do was melt into the wall in happiness and shock and say YES!
