Pomegranates & Pronouns

The Wedding Website of Neha Ghosh and Maya Nojechowicz
Question

What does the pomegranate symbolize?

Answer

Pomegranates hold symbolism across cultures. In the Jewish tradition, the seeds of a pomegranate represent abundance, prosperity, love, and hope for a fruitful new year. In Hinduism, pomegranates represent unity within diversity, mysticism, and prosperity, and are one of the plants offered to the Hindu goddess Durga. To us, this rich fruit is symbolic of the beauty that comes from blending our cultures, and the time and patience it takes to cultivate loving relationships. Thank you for joining us as we celebrate not only our wedding but our 10th anniversary together!

Question

Using Gender Neutral Pronouns

Answer

Pronouns for the couple: Neha - They/Them Maya - She/Her or They/Them (either is fine!) They, them, and theirs are gender-neutral singular pronouns used by trans and non-binary people. Using someone's pronouns correctly is a matter of respect. You're probably familiar with 'they' as a singular pronoun without even thinking about it. For example, if you saw a backpack on the ground in public, you might say, "Someone left their bag here. I wonder if they need it?" How to use they/them for an individual correctly: "Zoro looks great! I love their outfit." If you use someone's pronouns incorrectly, you can simply correct yourself and move on. For example: "She–I mean, they–would like an empanada." If you hear someone being misgendered in conversation, you can politely correct the speaker by saying something simple like: “Robin actually uses they/them pronouns.” This is an easy way of advocating for trans and non-binary loved ones.

Question

How to ask someone what their pronouns are

Answer

If you want to know someone's pronouns—and if you want to avoid misgendering a person—"What are your pronouns?" or "What pronouns do you use?" are perfect questions to ask.
