From set to Shelton

Let's set the scene... it's cinco de mayo 2018. Maxx had been in LA for 2 months and Kat had been in LA for almost a year. Arnetta Johnson, one of Kat's closest friends from college had flown into LA and was staying with Kat so she could shoot her music video. Arnetta invited Kat to come to set with her and hang out during the shoot. Now, Kat was an executive assistant at the time, in music, hustling hard, but had never been on set before so of course, she said yes! Well, fast forward. Arnetta and Kat get to Studios 60 for her shoot and suddenly Kat sees Maxx across the studio, setting up all these mirrors for the first shot. Now, for those of you who know Kat, you know if there's one thing she's going to do, it is going after something she wants. So Kat confidently strutted up to Maxx and introduced herself, "Hi! I'm Kat, Arnetta's friend." Maxx calmly replied, "ok, cool, nice to meet you." Well... that didn't quite play out how Kat expected it to. The rest of the shoot went on incredibly well and Maxx made an amazing video with Arnetta. Maxx added Kat on instagram the next day.... and of course, slid in the DMs. After a few messages back and forth, Kat and Maxx went on their first date - at an extremely loud bar in Hollywood (which has since closed). It was awkward. They were broke kids, it was too loud to hear anything, and neither one of them really drank. Take two. Kat invited Maxx over to her apartment for a home cooked meal (she loves to cook). As soon as Maxx walked in the door, his sister called, having been locked out, and Maxx had to leave to go let her in. Take three - the final cut. Maxx and Kat went to coffee. Where Maxx proceeded to explain how focused he was and what his goals were and how he "didn't have time for a girlfriend". Kat, being Kat, said alright well, friends it is. And the two became friends. We left out a tiny detail. Remember Kat's friend Arnetta? She and Maxx grew up together. Not only that, Maxx's dad manages her. So every time Arnetta was in town, she would invite Kat to come see the Sheltons. After years of that routine, COVID hits. Maxx and Kat had kept in touch, attended birthday parties, seen each other when Arnetta was in town, all that fun stuff. On a random Thursday night - during lockdown, Maxx facetimed Kat out of nowhere. She answered, obviously. The two chatted for hours. And when they hung up, they both knew something was different. It was time. They casually dated for a while - safely cooking at home, enjoying natural wine, cupcakes, DTLA city views, and exploring Malibu beaches. By February 2022, there was nothing casual about the two. Maxx, in the cutest most music industry way possible, asked Kat to be his girlfriend in her downtown LA apartment, while she was heads down on a sample clearance deal. Over the next three and half years, they would watch each others' careers continue to blossom, moving from Kat's DTLA apartment, to Woodland Hills, to moving in together, to their first home. They would adopt a second dog together (Kat got her first pup 3 months before they started dating - and Remy, doggo #1 is obsessed with Maxx - always has been). Start companies. Learn new skills, take on new adventures, and try a lot of coffee shops together. On September 26, 2025 Maxx took Kat out for date night. What was supposed to be a hard-drive pickup for work, was an incredible and tender proposal Maxx had planned. He took Kat back to Studios 60 where they met for the first time in 2018 and asked her to be his wife. She of course said yes, after a few typical "no, no, are you serious" comments. When Maxx moved to LA, he flew into LAX flying over the mountains and said to himself and God, I hope my wife is down there. Kat was down there, preparing for the incredible future the two would build together. From Set to Shelton - the pilot was picked up and the seasons will continue indefinitely. Written by God.
