We think the best time to visit Shenandoah National Park is in October because of its vibrant fall colors. During the first week of October, the leaves are beginning to change at the highest elevations. Skyline Drive, Old Rag Mountain, and Dark Hollow Falls are just a few of our favorite spots to explore in the park. Looking for a great drive in the park? Make sure to visit https://www.nps.gov/shen/planyourvisit/driving-skyline-drive.htm to learn more.
Skyline Caverns is the closest natural wonder to the nation’s capital and hosts nearly 100,000 visitors each year. People come from all around to experience the rare anthodites, unique formations of delicate white spikes, spreading in all directions, including upwards, from their position on the cave ceiling.
Virginia is wine country and there are so many fantastic wineries that are in the area. One of our favorites is Glen Manor Vineyards, a family owned winery where you can actually see the vineyards from the farm.
Front Royal Brewing Company at 122 E. Main St., is in historic downtown Front Royal. Head Brewer specializes in heirloom German beers, trend-setting IPAs and experimental brews. This is one of our favorite spots to explore while checking out downtown Front Royal. Our favorite dessert spots, Down Home Comfort Bakery is right next door too!
VA is for wine lovers! Chester Gap Cellars is one of our other winery favorites and is a small Virginia estate winery with scenic tasting room.
Best apple butter sugar donut, hands down. Conveniently located right off I-66 on exit 13, The Apple House is a Front Royal staple you will not want to miss.
Best coffee in town and it is located right on main street. It is the perfect opportunity to grab a coffee and walk around town to enjoy the different shops and fantastic art murals.
